Recently I attended a briefing on the wholesale sector, hosted by the Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD)!

The FWD represents UK food and drink wholesalers who supply retailers and caterers through collect, delivery, and online services. Their members are crucial to the hospitality industry and key public sector infrastructure, including schools, care homes, hospitals, and prisons.

Did you know? The wholesale sector:

Supplies up to 330,000 foodservice businesses and 72,000 retail grocery stores.

Supports local high streets and businesses across the UK.

Generates £36bn in annual revenues.

Employs 60,000 people.

Contributes £3bn of gross value added to the UK economy annually.

At the event, I had the chance to meet key suppliers like Bestway and Sysco (Brakes), and FWD members such as Pepsi Co and Nestlé. It was fascinating to learn how they manage logistics and supply chains to ensure everything from our Christmas dinners to daily essentials reach our tables.
