Today in Parliament, I highlighted the importance of teaching pupils about the democratic process. The Leader of the House agreed with me on the significance of this education and mentioned the independent curriculum and assessment review. Citizenship and education for life are absolutely vital to uphold our democratic process in the future.

During Parliament Week, I Visiting Hepworth Junior and Infant School and Salendine Nook High School. The students’ enthusiasm for learning about democracy was evident in their questions and participation. Early engagement is crucial for fostering informed future citizens.

I have asked the Minister for a debate in government time about children’s involvement in the democratic process.
